Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers about the community as it works today. For preparation beyond the software, read The Pilgrim’s Guide and Safety & Trust.

Is Eternal Pilgrim free?
Yes. Discovery and core community participation are free. Account limits are shown in the interface. Payment collection is disabled; optional support does not purchase reputation or a guaranteed connection.
What is the difference between a Wayfarer and an Anchor?
They describe your current role on one personal profile. A Wayfarer is travelling; an Anchor offers a local point of connection. You can change your role. An Anchor is not necessarily offering accommodation.
Can I use Discover without joining?
Yes. Search places with the existing GeoNames city picker, adjust the public filters and open the map. Only opted-in previews are shown. Sign in when you want to open a complete person, project or boat profile. The selected destination and search state are retained through the login return.
What are Knock and Open?
A Knock is an invitation to connect. The recipient can choose Open or decline. Open creates access to the external contacts each participant currently chooses to share. It does not book a stay or require anyone to meet.
Who can see my contact details?
They are stored separately from public previews. After Open, participants retrieve the contacts the other currently marks for sharing. Changes can apply to earlier Opens too. Removing a shared contact stops later retrieval but cannot recall copies already received. Blocking restricts in-app access while the block applies.
Can I look for a boat or crew?
Yes. Sailors includes Find a Boat and Find a Crew. Members can maintain boat profiles and crew opportunities. A public preview requires owner consent. A listing is not a certification of the skipper, the boat or the proposed passage.
How do Projects and volunteering work?
A Project has its own managed profile, practical details and references. Find Volunteers shows people who choose volunteering discovery. Personal volunteering opportunities are distinct from Project identities. Discuss tasks, hours, costs and support directly before agreeing to participate.
Are references and badges verified?
References follow an Open and describe the author’s experience; an Open alone does not prove a meeting occurred. Optional encounter confirmation and device-proximity checks are separate, limited signals. Badges are not identity, qualification or safety certifications. Legitimate negative references are not removed to make a profile look attractive.
How do I report a dangerous or abusive interaction?
Signed-in profile and connection tools provide report and block controls. The public contact also accepts reports and privacy concerns. Provide the relevant link and necessary facts without sending passwords or unnecessary sensitive data. Moderation is not an emergency service; seek local emergency assistance for immediate danger.
How can I pause or delete my account?
Settings includes pause and deletion. Pause hides discovery and stops new Knocks while preserving existing Opens. Deletion removes the application account and linked records subject to the retention rules in Privacy, and separately attempts to remove the Clerk identity. Follow any retry message if that second step fails.
